Stand-up comedian Lewis Black will offer students a chance to escape the back-to-school routine this fall as part of his Comedy Central Live, "Let Them Eat Cake" tour.

Black has captured national attention as an author, comedian and actor, known for his trademark dry sarcasm and screaming rants. Black will be performing at 8 p.m. Sept. 7 in the Elliott Hall of Music in a show sponsored by the Student Concert Committee.

"He successfully addresses the public with his trademark ferociousness because he knows that a lot of the crap our daily lives put us through makes us want to yell too; only we can't ミ not at work, not at the restaurant, not in school, because then other people will call the police," said graduate student Simone Caroti. "So he screams on our behalf in a stand-up comedy setting, and when we laugh at his screams, we are screaming as well. It's liberating."

Tickets for Lewis Black are $42.50 for the general public and $30 for Purdue and Ivy Tech students and children under age 19. Tickets can be purchased beginning June 6 through TicketMaster or at Purdue box office locations. The show will have a language advisory.

"Lewis Black is one of the most prolific and popular performers working today," said Laura Clavio, Purdue Convocations assistant director and Student Concert Committee adviser. "He executes a brilliant trifecta as stand-up comedian, actor and author."
