Come November, don’t be alarmed if you see hordes of bandana-clad people chasing each other.
The popular, underground collegiate game, Humans vs. Zombies, is planned to start Nov. 3 on Purdue’s campus.
The rules are simple: One player is selected as the original zombie, who tries to infect humans by tagging them on campus. Once infected, a human player becomes a zombie player and, in turn, must infect other human players. Humans can defend themselves by incapacitating zombies with Nerf guns or similar “weapons.”
Kevin Barlow, a freshman in the College of Science, is the lead organizer for Humans vs. Zombies.
“A friend of mine, who goes to Rochester Institute of Technology, told me about the game,” he said. “I mentioned it to a few of my friends, and we decided it was something that would be really cool to do here.”
This isn’t the first time the game has been attempted at Purdue.
Some Purdue faculty members were skeptical about the event because it has been tried several times, but always died in the planning stages.
“There were concerns about safety, liability and the University’s image,” Barlow said.
Mike Brockly, a junior in the College of Technology, is excited for the game.
“I decided to do it because it sounds really fun since it’s on such a wide scale,” he said. “There’s 1,200 people registered – even if 1,000 people do it, that’s just ridiculous.”
Callouts for Human vs. Zombies will be held tonight and Friday. Times, locations and more detailed information can be found at http://purdue.hvzsource.com.
