The Purdue University Dance Marathon is holding Skip-A-Meal and a date auction starting at 6 p.m. at Boiler Market.

Chris Gecewicz, a junior in the College of Consumer and Family Science and director of public relations for the organization, encourages people to come out and support the good cause.

“We encourage people to come out and help a good cause. Proceeds go to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis,” he said.

This is the sixth year for the Dance Marathon and the members have been fundraising since the end of last year’s dance marathon. This year’s dance marathon is an 18-hour event that will be held Feb. 27 and 28 of next year.

The Skip-A-Meal event offers people the option of buying food instead of cooking meals or using meal swipes at the dining halls, with 20 percent from each customer’s purchase going to Riley Hospital. Tonight’s Skip-A-Meal offers discounts to the students. The date auction starts at 8 p.m.

Sam Lame, a sophomore in the College of Engineering, says people should come out because the date auction will be fun.

“It’s going to be really fun. ... The date auction (is for dates) with the Golden Girl, Mr. Purdue, the Compliment Guys and football players,” she said.

The organization will continue raising money until the event in February. The organization raised over $100,000 last year.
