Purdue Convocations will host an fun-filled afternoon for local kids and their parents in the Loeb Playhouse on Sunday.
The famous children’s book “Strega Nona,” by author Tomie dePaola will come to life as a musical production and should keep children entertained.
“It really does mimic the way things would look when you open up a new pop-up book,” said Abby Eddy, director of marketing for Purdue Convocations. “The whole basis for the set was inspired by the colorful books.”
She said that before the show, local kids and their parents are invited to come to Loeb Playhouse for a pasta party. “There is a pasta theme in the story and kids will be able to come and make pasta necklaces and bracelets.”
One local mother has read her young daughter several of dePaola’s books and looks forward to letting her see the show, because the books held special significance for her.
“He writes really good kids’ books that my parents read to me when I was growing up,” said Alex Gebhard, a local resident. “I think (my daughter) Brailyn will really like to see all the colors and the story come to life.”
Eddy said the pasta party begins at 2 p.m. in Loeb Playhouse followed by the musical at 3 p.m.
Tickets for “Strega Nona” are $14 for adults and $10 for children under 18 years old, which includes the price of the pasta party, and can be purchased through the Elliott Hall and Stewart Center box offices and Ticketmaster.
