The Purdue men's basketball team defeated South Dakota State, 74-63, Friday night at the U.S. Virgin Islands in its opening game of the Paradise Jam.
After leading by just two at halftime, 39-37, Purdue started the second half with a 16-7 run to take a 55-44 lead with 10:47 left in the game and didn't allow the Jackrabbits to come back.
Junior guard E'Twaun Moore led the Boilers with 22 points in the game. Juniors forward Robbie Hummel and center JaJuan Johnson had 14 and 13 points. Johnson also had 11 rebounds in the game.
Senior guards Keaton Grant and Chris Kramer contributed nine and seven points.
Purdue shot 47 percent from the field in the game, taking 64 shots and converting on 30 of them. However, the Boilers made just two of their 16 3-point attempts.
The Boilers won the battle on the boards, pulling down 29 rebounds while South Dakota State grabbed 17.
Purdue will next play against Saint Joseph's in a semi-final game at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. The game will be televised on Fox College Sports Pacific.
