Purdue confirmed Thursday afternoon junior forward Robbie Hummel will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament Wednesday night.
The junior forward was averaging 15.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game this season. He had 11 of Purdue’s first 24 points in its 59-58 win against Minnesota Wednesday before the injury, which happened with just over seven minutes left in the first half.
Hummel’s parents couldn’t be reached for comment at their home phone, and the Naismith Award finalist is unavailable to media.
“Injuries are a part of the game, but this is obviously disappointing on multiple levels because of everything Robbie Hummel has done for this program both on and off the court,” Purdue Matt Painter said in a statement. “As he begins his recovery and rehab, Robbie will continue to provide integral leadership as we pursue our team goals down the stretch.”
Hummel will not be available to the media for comment.
The Boilers still have a one game lead in the Big Ten standings over Michigan State and Ohio State, with three games remaining. Purdue next plays Michigan State at 4 p.m. Sunday.
