What are the advantages to advertising in the Exponent?
The Exponent reaches more of the Purdue population than any other publication. It has an average daily readership of 87% of the student body. An amazing 98% of the student body can be reached in a week's time regardless of their age or location. The Exponent's importance among students is further enhanced by the fact that it is the only daily paper read by 65% of the student body. The Exponent also has significant readership among faculty and staff demonstrated by the fact that it reaches 72% of them each weekday, and 89% of them in a week.
How is the Exponent distributed?
The Exponent is distributed free of charge to 95 locations on and off campus including dormitories. Purdue faculty and staff member receive 3,000 copies daily through campus mail.
What is the total circulation?
18,000 copies daily (9,000 copies M, W, F during summer publication).
Do you design the ads or do we need to send them to you?
We have a production staff that would be happy to create your ad for you at no charge. Of course you may also send us an ad if you like.

Are your rates gross or net?
All rates are net.
When can I pay for the ad, now or later?
Payment must be received in advance for any new account. However, a credit application can be requested for future billing payments. The Exponent accepts VISA, Discover Card, MasterCard, checks and cash.

What are Proof, ROP, Classified Display, and Classified Word Ads?
A Proof is an ad that is approved by the advertiser prior to the day that it is scheduled to run. ROP means that your ad will be placed wherever it fits in the paper. Camera ready ads are typically ROP.
Classified Display means that your ad will be placed in the Classified Section.
Classified Words Ads are word ads that are in the Classified Section.
Are there any limits to what I can or cannot advertise?
This is left to the discretion of the Publisher. Examples of advertising not accepted include 900 numbers, hate or discriminatory advertising and Ghostwritten work.
What is the cost of color?
The cost per color is $110.
How many people read The Exponent each day?
87% of the student body and 71% of the faculty and staff read the paper each day.
Do students have a lot of money?
The mean discretionary income for Purdue students is $250. Nearly 3 out of 4 students have a VISA card.
Do you offer discounts for frequent advertisers?
Discounts are available for contract holders who advertise within the same week with the same ad. Contracts also lower the cost of advertising considerably.
5% discount for a full page.
10% for a double truck
15% discount for three or more full page units in the same edition.
Do you accept ads on a disk or through e-mail?
The preferred method of submission is by electronic file. The Exponent accepts electronic files either by e-mail or on a Mac-formatted disk. File must be in a PDF, JPEG or Quark format. Electronic files must be generated from originials that are as large or larger than the reproduction size. Must meet minimum web press specifications. PDFs generated in distiller using print presets. We request that any ad, sent on e-mail or disk, be accompanied by a hard copy. Hard copies can be faxed to (765) 743-6087.
Do you accept placement requests?
Yes, however we do not guarantee placement. Requests will be honored at the discretion of the Advertising Coordinator.

What size can I make my ad?
ROP Advertisements must be as many inches deep as columns wide, except in classified. The minimum ROP size is 3 inches; no partial column widths accepted. The depth must be a full or half-inch and full column advertisements will be set one pica short.

68% of Purdue students are 21 or more
32% of Purdue students are 20 or less
